Biography
Rania Al Abdullah is the Queen of Jordan because she is married to King Abdullah II. She was born in Kuwait to Palestinian parents. Rania studied business at The American University in Cairo and got a degree. In 1991, she and her family moved to Amman, Jordan, after the Gulf War. That’s where she met Prince Abdullah. Before that, she worked at Citibank and later at Apple Inc.

Becoming a Queen
Prince Abdullah never anticipated becoming the king of Jordan, as his uncle was expected to take the throne after the passing of King Hussein bin Talal, who had ruled the country since 1952. However, in a surprising turn of events, King Hussein named his son, Prince Abdullah, as his successor from his deathbed in 1999.
Following the king’s passing on February 7, 1999, Abdullah ascended to the throne and became the King of Jordan. Six weeks later, he officially declared his then 28-year-old wife, Rania, as the queen.
Family
Rania Al-Yassin was born on August 31, 1970, in Kuwait. Her parents are Palestinian, and her father was a physician from Tulkarm in the West Bank. On her maternal grandfather’s side, she has Turkish roots.
Queen Rania met Prince Abdullah bin Al-Hussein of Jordan at a dinner party in January 1993. They got married on June 10, 1993, at Zahran Palace, and their wedding ceremony was a national holiday. The couple has four children together.
Career
Rania studied business administration at the American University in Cairo and graduated with a degree. After finishing her studies, she worked in marketing at Citibank and later at Apple Inc. in Amman, Jordan.
